About Charles Foster
Charles Foster is an author, speaker, grief encourager, and widower who writes from personal experience and a deep desire to help others walk through the loss of a spouse with hope, honesty, and practical support.
For more than 45 years, Charles served others as a professional photographer, creating timeless portraits and helping families preserve their stories.
Life was full, meaningful, and familiar until everything changed. After the death of his wife, Cindy, Charles found himself facing a season of life he never expected and never wanted.
Like many widows and widowers, Charles discovered that the loss of a spouse changes nearly everything: daily routines, relationships, identity, confidence, responsibilities, and the way a person sees the future. He understands what it feels like to wake up to silence, to face decisions while grieving, and to wonder how life can ever move forward again. Out of that painful season came a new calling: to help widows and widowers know they are not alone.
Charles has spent years walking alongside grieving men and women, listening to their stories, encouraging them through difficult days, and helping them take one step at a time. His writing is shaped by personal loss, faith, compassion, and a practical understanding of the many emotional and real-life challenges that come after losing a husband or wife.
He is the author of grief support resources written especially for widows and widowers, including books that offer encouragement, practical guidance, and hope for the early days after loss. His desire is not to offer quick answers or easy phrases, but to provide honest words for people who are hurting and steady encouragement for the journey ahead.
Charles is also the Founder and Executive Director of Surviving From Loss, Inc., a nonprofit ministry serving widows and widowers with encouragement, fellowship, classes, events, and community support.
Through Surviving From Loss, Charles continues to help grieving spouses find connection, care, and a place where they do not have to walk through grief alone.
This website, CharlesFoster.com, is Charles’ personal author and speaking website. It is a place to learn more about his books, read articles of hope, request Charles as a speaker or teacher, and find encouragement for the journey through grief. Charles believes that grief is not weakness. It is the heart’s response to deep love and deep loss. He also believes that while life after loss is never the same, it can still have meaning, purpose, faith, connection, and hope. His message to widows and widowers is simple: You are not forgotten.
You are not alone.
Your story still matters.
And one step at a time, there is still life to be lived.
